Welcome winter with beautiful skin. Say goodbye to itchy, flaky, dull, and dry skin. Who says winter skin is difficult to handle? You only need the right ingredients to feed your skin with to make it glow and stay happy during the cold months.

It is good to use cold creams and heavy moisturizers during winter; but if you are looking for some inexpensive ways to take care of your skin during winter, head to your kitchen. You will find a slew of “yummy” ways to give your skin a dose of nutrition and beauty.

The best part of this skin care: You can even eat the ingredients that you are using on skin!

Dose of fruits

1. Papaya + banana anti aging moisturizer

Take: One banana, a piece of papaya, and 2 tablespoons of honey

Do this: Mash and mix banana and papaya well. Add honey to the mixture and form a smooth paste. Apply on face and other dry parts of your body. Leave it on for 15 minutes and rinse off.

Benefit: Bananas are rich in vitamins and papayas are rich in antioxidants. Both fruits have anti-aging properties. Honey acts as natural moisturizer. This face pack rejuvenates skin and makes it appear firmer and younger.

2. Avocado moisturizer

Take: Half an avocado and 2 tablespoons of honey.

Do this: Mash avocado and mix honey to it to form a smooth paste. Apply on face and neck. Leave it for 15 minutes and rinse.

Benefit: Honey and avocado help to cure extremely dry skin during the cold months. Avocado is rich in Vitamin E and C, healthy fats, and carotenoids. The fruit safeguards skin from damage by free radicals. Both avocado and honey contain anti oxidant properties and keep skin hydrated and younger looking.

3. Strawberry moisturizer

Take: A couple of strawberries, a teaspoon of honey, and a tablespoon of fresh cream. In case you are allergic to dairy items, skip cream and take 2 teaspoons of honey instead.

Do this: Mash strawberries. Add honey and cream to the mashed fruit and make a smooth paste. Apply on face. Avoid eyes and lip area. Leave it on for 10 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water and give a final rinse with cold water to close pores of skin.

Benefit: Strawberries are rich in Vitamin C. It makes skin smooth and soft and combats dryness. The fruit also serves as natural exfoliant. It contains mild acids that slough off dead cells and impurities from skin surface and leaves your complexion clean and brighter. Honey and fresh cream, no doubt, are rich moisturizers.

4. Banana anti aging moisturizer

Take: Half banana and a teaspoon of honey.

Do this: Mash the banana. Add honey to it. Make a smooth paste. Apply on face. Leave it on for 20 minutes. Rinse.

Benefit: Banana is a great moisturizer. It nourishes skin through its Vitamin A, B6, and C. These vitamins help skin to retain water and keep it well hydrated. Banana is also an anti aging fruit. It helps to smooth out wrinkles and fine lines.

Dose of oils

1. Virgin coconut oil

 

Take: A bowl of warm coconut oil.

Do this: Massage coconut oil on skin until it is absorbed completely. Do not rinse.

Benefit: Coconut oil is a great moisturizer. Its fatty acids prevent loss of moisture from skin. The oil keeps skin soft and supple. During the cold weather, massage skin with coconut oil before hitting the bed. 

2. Sunflower oil

Take: A few drops of the oil

Do this: Take some oil on your fingers and massage gently on the face until the skin absorbs it fully. Do not rinse. You can use sunflower oil for skin of the whole body.

Benefit: The oil is loaded in fatty acids and vitamins. It poses a great moisturizer for dry skin during winter. The oil has the property of retaining moisture. It is an emollient. Apply the oil before going to bed and see your skin stay soft and hydrated.

3. Olive oil

Take: A few drops of the oil and a couple of egg yolks.

Do this: Whip egg yolks by adding olive oil to them. Apply the mixture on face. Leave it on for 15-20 minutes. Rinse.

Benefit: Olive oil contains Vitamins E and K, plus antioxidants. Egg yolk has Vitamin A and lecithins. They nourish skin and combat dryness. You can use this face pack two times a week during the cold months to give your skin a natural glow.

Dose of milk

1. Almond + milk moisturizer

Take: A tablespoon of almond powder and 2 tablespoons of raw milk.

Do this: Mix almond powder and raw milk to form a smooth paste. Apply on face. Leave it on for 10 minutes. Massage lightly while rinsing.

Benefit: Milk is a great moisturizer. It contains enzymes and acids that exfoliate skin and make it smooth, soft, and supple. It cleanses complexion and brightens it. Almonds are rich in essential fatty acids and Vitamin E. They are great dryness fighters.

2. Yogurt + buttermilk moisturizer

Take: A cup of yogurt and a cup of buttermilk.

Do this: Mix yogurt and buttermilk in equal quantities and form a paste. Apply on face and the whole body. Leave it on for 20 minutes. Rinse.

Benefit: Yogurt contains Vitamin B6, calcium, and zinc that nourish and cleanse skin. They also lighten blemishes. Buttermilk has lactic acid that creates a “peeling” effect on skin and helps to brighten dull complexion. It is soothing to itchy skin and works terrifically on dry skin.

Last but not the least; you can also use lemon during winter. Take half a lemon and 2 tablespoons of honey. Squeeze the juice of lemon and add honey to it. Mix both and apply this on face with a swab of clean cotton. Leave it for 5-10 minutes. Rinse.

Lemon’s Vitamin C and honey’s anti inflammatory quality work together to soothe skin that is irritated and itchy due to cold weather. Please use a moisturizer after using lemon on skin, suggests experts.
