A spa facial is one of the best ways to combat the signs of aging.  The more frequently you cleanse, hydrate, nourish and pamper your skin the better the better. However, not everyone can afford to indulge themselves at a spa. When considering the cost and time it takes away from your day, an at-home DIY anti-aging facial is far more practical. Here we’ll be taking you through a look at a 10-step low-cost spa facial that you can do at home to hydrate the skin while restoring its elasticity and glow. We’ve also given you an option for the best store-bought product in each treatment stage for when you want to treat yourself or need intensive treatment.

Step 1 – Removing Makeup

Clean off all of your makeup with a facial wipe or soap cloth. Removing makeup complete is the first step to deeply cleansing your skin. Feel free to use a makeup removing product designed for sensitive skin. Apple cider vinegar works great when you’re cutting costs.

Step 2 – Cleanse

Clean your skin with an anti-aging cleanser. Clean everywhere except the area immediately surrounding your eyes. As Oprah once reminded us, a cleanser stays on our skin for six seconds or less. There is no compound which will deeply remove toxins within such a short period of time. Any affordable, mild face wash will work. However, the best anti-aging cleansers contain rice milk, retinol and vitamin E.

Step 3 – Steam Your Face

Unclog your pores and deeply detox every layer of skin with a green tea facial steam. Green tea has everything that you need to promoting younger looking skin while. Remove toxins by following these easy steps to reduce the signs of aging with a gentle facial steam:

  • Fill a pot or pan to roughly 1/3 full of water (a large saucepan is best)
  • Turn to heat to as high as you can go
  • Add either raw green tea leaves or two green tea bags to the water
  • Once the water is rapidly boiling turn the heat down to low, adjusting to get a steady stream of steam
  • Standing a comfortable distance from the pot, haunch over allowing the steam to saturate your face
  • Breath in the same and relax, steaming your face for two to three minutes
  • Wipe down your face and repeat the process twice
  • Rinse your face with clean warm water before patting dry

Step 4 – Exfoliate in Cycles

Exfoliation clears dead skin cells paving the way for anti-aging products to penetrate deeply. Regular exfoliation gives you a glowing, youthful complexion thanks to promoting healthy oil production. Go for an exfoliator which container lactic or glycolic acid and a facial scrub which uses microbeads to remove toxins. Alternate between the two for the best results. A bi-weekly facial using an acid-based exfoliator first and then a facial scrub on the following treatment gives you the best age defying benefits. If you’re on a shoe-string budget and can’t fit in a store-bought exfoliator then exfoliate the natural way using:

  • Oatmeal
  • Coarse Sea Salt / Ground Himalayan Salt
  • Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Almond Powder
  • Baking Soda
  • Citrus
  • Coffee

Step 5 – Put on a Clay Face Mask

A mask made from either kaolin clay, mud, or even charcoal aids your gentle cleanse by adding an extra step to your exfoliation. Clay masks draw impurities toward the surface while hydrating the deepest layers of skin. Leave your anti-aging face mask on overnight carrying on your facial with toner in the morning. Try to find a face mask containing any of the following extracts for the best age defying benefits for your skin:

  • Sandalwood
  • Rosewater
  • Aloe Vera
  • Almond
  • Avocado
  • Flax Seed
  • Banana
  • Papaya

You can also try a home-made quick-acting anti-wrinkle face mask. Mash together a medium-sized banana until it reaches a smooth consistency. Add two tablespoons of raw honey and a quarter cup of plain yogurt. Mix this together and apply it liberally as a face mask. After twenty minutes rinse it off with cool water and you’re ready for skin toning.

Step 6 – Skin Toning Time

Now that your pores are open you need to apply toner.  Make yourself a home-made age defying toner and put in a spritzer or buy a good anti-aging product. Luminque Toner is about the best store-bought anti-aging toner. Its combination of leading ingredients including both Safflower Seed Oil and Aloe Vera puts it ahead of most other toners. Rich in marine botanicals, seed extracts and free from parabens, Luminique can even be used throughout the day as a soothing refresher. Use a cotton ball or pad to apply your toner in circular motions. Allow it to dry for five minutes before continuing to the next step.

Make Your Own Age Defying Toner

Here’s our easy-to-make age defying toner which dries in no time:

  • Make a cup of green tea with three to four teabags to a single cup allowing it to steep overnight
  • Mix ½ cup of green tea with ¼ cup of witch hazel
  • Add five drops of sweet almond oil and five drops of pomegranate seed oil (you can skip both and go for ten drops lavender oil if you’re saving costs)
  • Dispense the mix to a spray bottle
  • Shake vigorously and spray directly on your face
  • Pat dry after each spritz with clean hands

Step 7 – Apply a Silicone, Snail Gel or Sheet Mask

There is nothing which aging skin needs more now than deep hydration. A sheet mask gives you spa quality results. They’re great for transforming your complexion and smoothing out your skin in a hurry. Silicone masks are also fantastic for hydration and snail masks are renowned for fighting the signs of aging. Pick one that suits you.

Step 8 – Treat Any Skin Issues, One at A Time

Apply spot correctors such as products containing vitamin C and retinol which your skin will absorb quickly. The key to getting rid of any skin problems such as acne or dark spots is fixing one problem at a time. Only use a serum at this stage if you really need it.

Step 9 – Anti Aging Cream

The fatty acids and vitamin E in coconut oil make it the perfect moisturizer for aging skin. Apply coconut oil lightly to your face and rub lightly using your fingertips. Those looking for the ultimate solution to younger looking skin should try a product such as Bellaplex (Bellicus Pellicula) Anti-Aging Facial Cream. It’s combination of Matrixyl 3000 and synergistic Hyaluronic Acid make it a potent age-defying cream ideal for this stage of your facial.

Step 10 – Finishing Touches

Don’t cut any corners when going all out on an at-home spa facial. Treat all areas of your face. This includes applying an eye cream and always wearing SPF protection when exposed to sunlight. All-day moisturization with UV protective benefits is supplied in creams such as Collagenix Age-Defying Complex with Broad Spectrum SPF 15 Sunscreen. Don’t use something generic which isn’t specifically for aging skin. Your other cosmetics should also cater to skin firming and aging. Hydroxatone Hydrolyse Anti-Aging BB Cream with Broad Spectrum SPF40 is a great example of how your blemish cream can even your skin tone, protect your skin from the sun and give you younger looking skin at the same time.
